Gender

In our culture, gender stereotypes are with us from birth.

They assume behaviours or characteristics that ‘should’ be displayed by men or women based on traditional gender roles. They’re all around us, in the media, in our homes and in pornography. And they can be damaging. Gender stereotypes are a major impacting factor on sexism and gender-based violence, as well as homophobia and transphobia.

We explore more about gender stereotypes and the impact they can have in our video.

Workshop

We’ve developed a workshop for young people exploring ‘Gender Stereotypes’. Through education, we aim to prevent sexual violence taking place in the first place. If you’re a teacher or youth worker and would like to find out about this and our other workshops, go to our Training and Consultancy page, call 0141 552 3201 and ask for the Rosey Project or email us at: info@roseyproject.co.uk.

If you need support and want to talk about gender and gender stereotypes, call our helpline on 08088 00 00 14 or email us at: support@rapecrisiscentre-glasgow.co.uk

If you’re aged between 13 and 25, find out what support is available from LGBT Youth Scotland: here.
