We began offering Prevention Workshops at the Rosey Project five years ago in direct response to the increasing number of young women accessing the support service at Glasgow Rape Crisis Centre.
We decided that the best way to challenge this was to go out and talk to young people, boys and girls about the kind of things that are affecting them and forming their attitudes around sexual violence and to gauge what kind of understanding they have about sexual violence.
We talk to young people about things like:
- Sexualisation of the music industry
- Commercial Sexual Exploitation
- The effects of pornography
- The effects of prostitution
- Sexualisation of the advertising industry
- Sexual violence and the law
- The effects of sexting
We have developed our workshops over the years by listening to young people, teachers, youth workers, parents and other guardians of young people who have told us what it is that is affecting them the most. We can develop and tailor make a workshop to meet the needs of an individual group, our prevention worker Paula will be happy to discuss this.
If you are a teacher, youth worker, parent or other person who looks after young people and would like to find out more about the workshops please contact Paula at the Glasgow Rape Crisis office on 0141 552 3201 or email her.
